Willow – “My time at Shrewsbury High was truly special.”

Memories of life at SHS

"My biggest takeaway has to be the friendships that I have made – I know these will last a lifetime."

It has been almost three years since I left the High School and how time has flown! I am currently in my third and final year at Cardiff University studying Human Geography. I love Cardiff and am thoroughly enjoying my course, which incorporates elements of politics, economics and sustainability. There is a lot of work balancing my dissertation and modules, however, I am always able to find time for a good night out!

After I finish university, in September of next year, I will be working for Deloitte in London as a trainee tax accountant. I was offered this job after completing a five week internship with them over the summer. Unfortunately, this does mean I have a hefty number of exams to complete – so I am not quite done with studying yet! However, I am sure the London life and the corporate world will supply the momentum I need to work hard. I am so excited for this new chapter of my life.

I am grateful to still be involved with the High School as a Governor which is an excellent way to keep up to date with what is going on. It also enables me to contribute to the future of the school. What has become apparent to me as a Governor is the care that the staff at SHS put into every decision they make – something I took for granted while I was at school!

I think back to my time at the High School with great fondness. Whether it was the lessons, the brilliant teachers, choir, carols round the tree, or just generally messing around in the sixth form house, my time there was truly special. My biggest takeaway however has to be the friendships that I have made – I know these will last a lifetime. I am thoroughly looking forward to celebrating 140  years of the High School and hopefully many more to come!
