From French, German and Spanish exchanges to schools in Nancy, Weimar and Málaga for our GCSE language students to a Spanish meal just before the A-Level oral exams to practise in a more relaxed context, our MFL department ensures that curriculum language learning is enhanced across all years at Shrewsbury High with exciting and creative co-curricular opportunities.
This year saw a curriculum cross over between Spanish and Physics with girls presenting their projects on renewable energy in Spanish.
French and Spanish speaking workshops take place with a local school twice a year in preparation for the Y11 mock oral exams and the real GCSE oral exams. Visiting French theatre groups perform for the girls, Fridays see the MFL Film Club enjoy French, German and Spanish films and we run workshops with Junior’s, this year focusing on role play.
A spelling bee, Christmas card competition and regular Spanish karaoke competitions guarantee that languages can always be heard loud and proud at SHS!
