Whatever your aspirations, goals or dreams for the future, Shrewsbury High School’s University and Careers advice is designed to prepare you to take that next exciting step.

With personalised guidance and the huge benefits of a global alumnae network, our dedicated staff are able to provide expert advice and personal support for students whether they are applying to Oxford and Cambridge, universities at home or abroad or looking to take up apprenticeships with leading companies.

With all the power of the GDST network behind us, no other Sixth Form will set you up better for university, further study and the world of work. On top of dedicated support within the school and advice and workshops on options in Higher Education and application procedures, our pupils also have access to the GDST’s unique CareerStart programme, providing vital life skills to help you succeed. The GDST has relationships with select employers and universities who host insight days and connections with organisations who help our pupils understand the range and complexity of their businesses as you work out your next steps.

Our UCAS support and advice is well structured and we have an excellent success rate for the girls receiving offers from their chosen universities. Students receive support with their personal statement, additional admissions tests and mock interview practice.

Oxbridge preparation

For girls who set their sights on some of the country’s top universities, our dedicated Oxbridge Co- ordinator role offers support and enrichment for all who want to attend Oxbridge, study Medicine, Veterinary or Dentistry. We take great care in supporting their ambitions through personalised and tailored teaching and guidance.

Working closely with subject specialists and the Head of Careers, the Oxbridge and Competitive Universities Coordinator supports and advises Year 12 students as they write their personal statements, and prepare for interviews and entrance examinations.

The scope of the role, however, extends far beyond supporting the sixth form in their applications. Shrewsbury High aims to identify those with the potential and desire to go to Oxford or Cambridge, or to study Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Science and invite those we identify onto our Enrichment programme. We realise that every student develops at a different rate, and so we will invite students at any point in their school career.

As part of the programme we offer practical advice on work experience and volunteering, and encourage girls to think beyond the curriculum, extend their knowledge and develop the skills Oxford, Cambridge, Veterinary and Medical Schools require.
