Transition into Senior School
An admissions process with your daughter’s smooth transition at its very heart
As an all-through school, based on one site, ensuring a seamless transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is what we do best and often it is the all-through nature of the school that attracts many of our parents.
However, whether your daughter is already in our school, or joining us for the first time, we take great care to provide your daughter with opportunities to spend time with us here at SHS, either on private taster days or on one of very popular transition events. This means that when it is time for her to make the move, she can do so with confidence and excitement rather than nerves and worry.
For entry in September 2025, our admissions process gets underway at our Whole School Open Day on Saturday 28th September.
Key Dates for Year 7 entry September 2025
Senior Open Day where current pupils will tour you and your daughter around the school. Presentations by the Head.
Activities morning – this takes place on a Saturday morning and girls pick different subjects to try their hand at, spend a bit more time at the school but without the hustle and bustle of lots of older pupils.
Year 7 Taster Day – Year 6 girls who are thinking of joining the school can join us for a Year 7 taster day, finding out about all they can expect as a new senior school pupil.
Deadline for applications to sit the 11+ Entrance Examination (applications can be made here).
Bursary and Scholarship applications closing date.
Year 7 Entrance Examination. This takes place on a Saturday morning and is made up of a short English, Maths and multiple choice selection of questions. We aim to make the morning as relaxing for the girls as possible with small classrooms, regular toilet breaks and staff on hand to reassure the girls. NB: Girls already at Shrewsbury High Junior School are not required to sit the Entrance Exam for the senior school unless they wish to be entered for an academic scholarship.
Specialist scholarship assessments for consideration for Art, Music, Drama and Sport scholarships.
Offer letters sent out in early February.
Post Offer Experience Day at SHS! A fun and interactive day for girls joining us in September to spend a day with future school friends.
Year 7 Induction Day – girls are invited to join us for an induction day where they meet their tutors and new teachers, their classmates and their “Big Sisters” (Sixth Form students who help new Year 7 pupils settle into life at the senior school).
