Excited, enthusiastic, enquiry-driven learners

Junior pupils work creatively from an early age, encouraging a love of learning.

Shrewsbury High School’s Real World Ready curriculum can be broadly grouped under three umbrellas: Creative Curriculum, STEAM and Physical Development and Wellbeing. Nothing is taught in isolation. Much like a dot-to-dot puzzle, we draw connections between subjects, topics, and themes to ensure that our character dispositions of creativity, curiosity and courage are piqued.

We aim to teach children how to grow into positive, responsible people, who can work and co-operate with others while developing knowledge and skills, so that they achieve their true potential.

Our girls are encouraged to be self-starters, to find their passions and strengths, and to work hard to develop in the areas that might not come as easily to them.

Small class sizes and specialist teachers

Lessons taught by specialist teachers increase as pupils move through the school. Specialist teaching in Music, Languages and PE begins in Reception, and from Year 1, Computing, Art, and Design Technology is delivered by specialist teachers. From Year 5, Maths, Science and Drama are also taught by specialist teachers.

Our girls get off to a flying start in Reception!

A place to feel safe, opportunities to develop skills, confidence, and friendships and our purposeful environment, ensures every girl is supported and challenged to think, learn, and develop whilst warm, nurturing, and caring staff encourage our girls to discover and explore the world around them.

Playing, Exploring, Creating and Thinking Critically

Our curriculum focuses on the resources the girls use; the environment they are in; and the people around them. Through the many different experiences that they enjoy throughout the day, they can build their own knowledge and understanding.

Forest School

With wellies and waterproofs donned, inspiring, weekly Forest School sessions for pupils in Reception to Year 4 provide pupils with the opportunity to develop an inquisitive and positive relationship with the wonderful natural world.
