A carefully considered and immersive induction process means when your daughter joins us at the Senior School she will already feel familiar with the school, staff and other girls.

Key Dates for Year 7 Entry in September 2024

Our admissions process will follow the steps below and the enrolment process for September 2023 begins with our Whole School Open Day on Saturday 30 September 2023.  You will receive full information about the timeline of events and how to apply for a bursary or scholarship at this point.

Timeline of Induction events

16th September – Year 6 Techathon – a chance for year 6 girls to come and spend the morning at SHS with some tech and coding challenges.

30th September – Senior Open Day where current pupils will tour you and your daughter around the school. Presentations by the Head.

21st October – Activities morning – this takes place on a Saturday morning and girls pick different subjects to try their hand at, spend a bit more time at the school but without the hustle and bustle of lots of older pupils.

22nd November – Year 7 Taster Day – Year 6 girls who are thinking of joining the school can join us for a Year 7 taster day, finding out about all they can expect as a new senior school pupil.

20th January 2024 – Year 7 Entrance Examination. This takes place on a Saturday morning and is made up of a short English, Maths and multiple choice selection of questions. We aim to make the morning as relaxing for the girls as possible with small classrooms, regular toilet breaks and Sixth Formers and staff on hand to reassure the girls.

NB: Girls already at Shrewsbury High’s independent Junior School are not required to sit the Entrance Exam for the senior school unless they wish to be entered for an academic scholarship. We already know the ability and attitude of our Year 6 girls and are already invested in seeing their potential fully realised at SHS.

Spring – Post Offer Experience Day at SHS! A fun and interactive day for girls joining us in September to spend a day with future school friends.

June – Year 7 Induction Day – girls are invited to join us for an induction day where they meet their tutors and new teachers, their classmates and their “Big Sisters” (Sixth Form students who help new Year 7 pupils settle into life at the senior school).

Whether girls go through this whole process or join us at different times throughout the year, we ensure the induction process is carefully thought out for every girl. We are always happy to arrange taster days for girls joining Shrewsbury High School.
