Life in Year 2
Year 2 is a very special year in a child’s life. This year sees the children transform from being an infant into a junior child, gaining more independence and paving their way for their move into the Prep Department. In Year 2, the children get to represent the Pre – Prep on the School Council, perform the main parts in the nativity and lead Pre-Prep concerts, to name but a few things, which makes this year a special one for both pupils and parents. Every year, our learning journey is different, depending on the children’s interests in the class, although the theme remains the same. As a class teacher, I always endeavour to encourage the children to be creative, achieve their full potential, but most important of all, to be themselves.
We have some fantastic creative curriculum themes throughout the year. Our journey starts with the theme of “Into the Woods.” In term two we “Step Back in Time” to the fabulous “1930s” and in term three we explore “Passport to the World.” Each journey has an exciting start and off we go! Children become immersed in our curriculum, we work in partnership with parents, and as much of our learning as possible is covered through our themes, including English and some mathematics. Weekend learning is linked to our theme, often being open-ended, giving the children the opportunity to explore and learn in the way that they like; fun, individuality and creativity is encouraged!
All our visits are linked to our learning journey, and so far have included Stokesay Castle,Battlefield Falconry and Dudley Zoo. We have also had a fantastic dance workshop and celebration of 1930’s music and dance.
