Visit us

Our Senior School has been educating girls in the heart of Shrewsbury since 1885 and sits on Town Walls and alongside the River Severn.  We are experts in educating girls and everything we do is designed to help girls thrive – from the timings of the school day, to the design of curriculum and pastoral programme.  There is no better way to experience life in our Senior School than by visiting.  Girls join us into key entry points of Y7 and Y9 but also across the school and throughout the year.  Email our admissions team to arrange your private visit or register for our Open Days.

Taster Days can be arranged at any time and are a wonderful way for your daughter to get to know us better.

Taster Days

  • Year 6 Activities Morning
    Saturday 12.10.24

A fun morning for year 6 girls thinking of joining us in year 7 in September 2025.  Come and spend the morning with some of our teachers and other year 6 girls – dancing, art, cooking – a wonderful way to get a feel for life at SHS.

  • Year 7 Taster Day
    Wednesday 20.11.24

Ahead of the application deadline, join us for a full day with our year 7 staff and experience year 7 lessons.  An invaluable day in our transition programme, we are already getting to know your daughter better and she will be feeling more confident moving around our school and starting to make friends with other girls joining the following year.

Applications are welcome throughout the year, however to secure your daughter’s place, early application is encouraged.

Application deadline for September 2025 entry:
13.12.2024

Apply

To apply for a place in our Senior School, please complete an online application on our Admissions platform.  Registering is straightforward and you will be asked to pay a £100 non-refundable deposit.  When you join into year 7, 9 or 12 you are also eligible to apply for a Bursary or Scholarship.

  • Bursary and Scholarship Application Deadline
    13.12.2024

If your daughter is applying to join us into year 7, 9 or 12 she is eligible to apply for a bursary and/or a scholarship.

Bursaries are means-tested awards and can contribute between 30 and 100% of the fees.  Bursary assessments are carried out by our GDST Bursary team and if awarded can remain with a pupil for the duration of her time at Shrewsbury High.  An annual review of your award will take place every year and the award may increase or decrease depending on that annual review.  Once you have submitted an application for a place, you can proceed with a bursary application.  You will be informed of the outcome of your bursary application in your daughter’s offer letter.

  • Girls joining us into years 7, 9 and 12 are eligible to apply for Academic, Sports, Art, Music and Drama scholarships.  Scholarship awards are prestigious and very few are awarded.  They are merit based and awarded to the top performing student in that area and usually come with a fee remission of around 10%.  Students are automatically entered into the academic scholarship process when they sit the mandatory senior school entrance assessment.   Applications for Art, Music, Drama and Sports scholarships can be made once an initial application for a place has been submitted on the Admissions platform.  Full details of scholarship criteria can be found on our scholarship page.

Senior School Entrance Assessment
Saturday 18.01.25

Entrance Assessment

All students applying for a place in our senior school (at whatever time of year) are required to sit an entrance assessment.

For those registering to join us in September 2025, girls will be invited in on Saturday 18th January 2025 to sit the online CAT4 assessment, and for year 7 applicants, a short Maths and English paper.

There is no revision required for the entrance assessment.  Whilst we will use the academic assessment to award academic scholarship awards, the assessment is very useful to see where your daughter’s strengths and weaknesses lie, so that when she joins us in September, our teachers are ready to support her with extra challenge or extra support.

We make the morning as relaxed as possible and for many girls and their families who have already joined us for taster days and tours, the morning provides another exciting way to meet their new friends and spend another morning with SHS staff.

Offers will be made via our online Admissions platform by February half term.

Offers

Once you are happy that Shrewsbury High School is the right place for your daughter, and have received your offer letter, you must complete the online parent contract by Monday 3rd March 2025 and pay a £500 refundable deposit. We will hold the deposit until the end of your child’s final term at school and refund it within 12 weeks of their departure, minus any sums owed to the GDST or the school at that time. We cannot refund the deposit if you withdraw your child after accepting the place.

We take great care in providing you and your daughter with a specially designed transition programme to ensure that you are all ready for this exciting move. In the spring and summer terms, we will hold two more transition and induction events for your daughter ahead of her joining us in September so she is fully prepared and excited for her senior school move.
